Love is…

By

Love is not measured by what someone can give, spend, borrow, or sacrifice.

Love is trust.
Kindness.
Honesty.
Understanding.

It is coffee and laughter.

Music.
Bookstores.
Dogs underfoot.
Quiet fall mornings.
Long walks beneath changing leaves.

After Crosby died, Marshall would stand beside his leash and bark while I sat crying into my coffee.

He knew something I didn’t.

If we walked, eventually the tears would slow.

The other day, Cocobean did something very similar.

Maybe dogs understand what love is.

Their eyes saying, let me show you; their paws dancing on the floor saying –

Come with me.

Keep walking.

I’m here.

Dogs don’t measure love in money.

Money is part of life, but it should never become the measure of love.

Love should feel safe enough that neither person has to prove how much they care by carrying more than they can bear.

Sometimes the most meaningful things we give each other cost nothing at all.

A hug.
A cup of coffee.
A hand to hold.
A quiet walk.
The comfort of knowing someone is there.

The comfort and chaos of soft paws.

Love is presence.

And sometimes, that is everything.
